25 Oct What’s the Why Behind Your What?
Willpower, motivation and determination can be powerful tools to help you confront problems and make choices that are moving you closer towards your goals.
However, this cannot be the only tool in your tool box because these WILL run out.
What’s the WHY behind your WHAT?
If you want to lose 10# this is the what.
WHY do you want to lose weight?
How will your life be better?
Who else in your like will be positively impacted as a result of this?
How will your relationships be better?
What will you be able to DO as a result of achieving this goal?
This is relevant for any commitment you make. If you are feeling like your stress bucket is over flowing you are over scheduled. Take a clear look at your schedule and ask yourself the why behind your motives.
Never agree to do something in order to impress other people or based on fear of what others may think if you. This will only lead to fast burn out and frustration.
As the Holidays approach it is easy to lose sight of the intentions behind your motives with more places to be, things to buy and do. On top of the normal business.
Don’t say yes to things if your heart is screaming, “no.”
Ask yourself Why.
Why did I agree to serve on this committee?
Why do I really want this promotion at work? Is it external approval I am seeking?
Why do we need to attend 5 Holiday parties this week?
Will this bring more joy into my life or pull more energy from me?
As you evaluate your motives you begin to see what is in your heart.
One of the biggest things for me was when I started saying yes to more things I wanted to do. That brought me peace, joy and aligned with my values.
And no to things that were draining me and adding unnecessary stress to my life.
When you start saying no to things that are pulling you down, you have more TIME to say yes to yourself. You no longer need to reach for the quick highs because you have less super lows.
This is directly related to your food choices. When you are constantly running on empty you are going to reach for the sugar, caffeine, alcohol, social media outlets for distraction, escape and quick highs.
Evaluate your priorities.
Make time for more of what you LOVE.
This will not only bring enjoyment into your life, but you will be able to show up more fully for what truly matters. When you prioritize your needs you can be more present for your family, friends, and co workers.
As you move into your week, think about what you are committing to, and the why behind the what.
XO,
Jennie
