15 May The Way Out of Judgmental Self-Talk
As recovering perfectionists and those working to overcome the diet culture way of thinking (it’s constant work!).
You are often looking at circumstances and goals with black and white thinking. Approaching projects in a straight line from A to Z, rather than flowing with the ups and downs that come with any success story.
Diets have taught you there is no room for deviation along the path.
**Life doesn’t work that way**
When the inevitable deviation happens, this rigid thinking leads to frustration and negative self talk for not being able to stay exactly between the lines.
These negative beliefs around yourself and thinking REALLY impact your mental health.
View your health journey with a more compassionate lens and a neutral, appreciative way of thinking. Imagine improving your relationship with food as a spiral of healing. The momentum is Upward and Onward, it doesn’t move in a straight line.
It circles around the loops of the spiral as it moves upward.
The loops represent moments of returning to past behaviors (which is part of the growth process!)
Give these moments curiosity and reflection. Examine your beliefs and thoughts with self care and positive self talk.
Some would label these loops as set backs, but these are moments of learning what we are actually needing.
Come from a place of curiosity, rather than judgement!
Transform Negative Self Talk into Positive Self Talk
“I’m worthless and will never lose weight because I don’t meet my exercise goals.”
Coming from a place of Curiosity vs Judgement
“I’m so proud of myself for bringing movement into my life. I haven’t been able to incorporate it consistently yet, but I am working on it and learning ways I can prioritize this better. This is great progress for me!”
Express Gratitude
I am fortunate to be able to buy fresh food whenever I need to fill my refrigerator.
I am grateful for the strong body I have, which gets me through life.
I feel fortunate to have a more nurturing approach to food.
Reframing Your Thoughts with Positivity and Gratitude can Impact your life and the outcome of your goals!
