What is the Best Diet for Fat Loss?

what is the best diet?!

This question makes the diet industry so lucrative because one size fits all restrictive diets are setting you up for failure and frustration. Only to make you feel like it’s your fault, and have to keep starting the diet over. Majority of the women I work with have dieted more years of their life than not, only to end up gaining and losing the same weight over and over.

I am here to keep it real with you. Because there is a better way.

There are 5 necessary criteria for a sustainable fat loss plan. And I say fat loss, because weight includes many aspects in addition to fat mass. Most of us want to lose fat and maintain muscle!

Are You Ready?

The best diet for Fat Loss is…

1. The One You Can Stick To

Consistency is key in creating lasting change. If you are not able to stick with it, you are not going to be able to maintain the results you got. If you are eliminating foods you enjoy, or you can’t go out to eat, or feel overwhelmed going to an event, you are going to feel like you are constantly stopping and starting. If your family orders pizza on Fridays, or you do date night on Saturdays, you have to learn how to fit these experiences in your life, in a realistic way.

2. The One that Includes the Things You Enjoy

If you can’t enjoy the foods you enjoy, you’re not going to stick with it!
If you are following a meal plan or restrictive diet, there is no room for fun. This doesn’t take into account what YOU value with food or drinks. Not what I value, or the person that wrote the plan. YOU. One of the first things I will ask a new coaching client is, what are you nonnegotiables? What are the food or drinks you genuinely enjoy and value in your life? Top sellers are usually, pizza, pasta, ice cream, dessert, wine. These foods can absolutely be included in a balanced diet, if you understand how.

3. The One that Teaches you How to Navigate Eating Out and Travel

Most people will go wild during the Holidays and while traveling because there is a lot more opportunity for fun foods and there are more aspects out of our control. If you are constantly starting and stopping diets based on convenience, you are going to continue to feel frustrated. Learning how to enjoy these aspects of life while still feeling good and moving towards your goals is KEY and what most diets don’t acknowledge.

4. The One that Keeps you Satisfied (not Hangry)

How often have you started a diet, and dreaded it because you KNEW you would be short tempered and hungry all of the time? This is often because you are eating drastically lower calories than you need to be. This will eventually backfire, when your body starts sending you signals that it is not getting what it needs with obsessive food thoughts and eventually binging or feeling out of control with foods. You need to be in a calorie deficit for weight loss, but it does not need to be extreme. It is a huge priority that my nutrition clients feel fueled and satisfied, while still making progress towards their goals.

5. The One that Teaches you HOW to Build Meals Effectively to Feel Your Best

Prescriptive diets are not Teaching you about nutrients and what your body needs for your individual lifestyle, current circumstances and activity level. Your calorie tracking app giving you daily calorie goals is not teaching you how to realistically create balanced, enjoyable meals that make sense for your schedule AND help you reach your goals.

I meet my nutrition clients where THEY are at. Before our initial session together, they complete a week of food journaling to build awareness and to get an idea of where their nutrition is at currently. From there we can identify adjustments that make sense based on foods they already enjoy, and take it in small steps. We break it down, so it doesn’t feel overwhelming and we aren’t making too many drastic changes at once.

If you are ready to learn how to create fat loss that lasts while enjoying the foods you love and living your life, apply for coaching. From there we can set up a free call and decide if it is a good fit to move forward together!
