Start with A

I want it all.

AND I want it right now.

The business, the house, the clothes, the car, the certain weight, the relationship, the vacation ETC….

We, as humans are wired to want instant gratification. I am 100% guilty of this everyday. I have ten things going on and I want them all done perfectly right now. I want to be the best wife, daughter, sister, dietitian, friend, employee, entrepreneur, yoga teacher, client, expert….

Thankfully I married someone who has the complete opposite personality of me and hired my own coach. My husband will countlessly stop me through the day and say “Jen, start with A.” Like seriously multiple times a day. My coach is working with me at MY own pace, because that’s why I am at.

Diet culture has taught us that we can achieve the certain weight by following this certain program. We lose the weight and then stop the program and gain the weight back. Then we feel like total failures. We label ourselves as unmotivated, unsuccessful and it was our fault.

When really, restrictive diets set us up for failure, WE take the blame and then try the next diet everyone else is doing.

THAT IS WHY there is a $70 BILLION weight loss industry … say what!

THAT IS WHY the majority of the books on your shelf are related to diets and cleanses.

THAT IS WHY the majority of those diet books are sitting on the shelf and you are delaying reading/starting because you know you’ll be starving and feel completely restricted.

The UnSexy Secret

We have to slowly create changes in our habits, priorities, beliefs and mindset to SLOWLY over time achieve these goals. Yes, ABSOLUTELY have a crystal clear vision of what you want. EVERYDAY, see that thing or goal. But in order to get there, we have to start with “A.”

You may even have to start with a lowercase “a.”

If your diet consists mainly of fast food, soda and alcohol, you could try to go on a super intense cleanse, completely changing the food and liquids going into your body. But, you are VERY quickly going to quit completely and go back to your old habits. This is too much change too quickly.

INSTEAD

Start by exchanging ONE can of soda for seltzer or a glass of water, for ONE week.

That’s it.

This is reasonable.

You are literally changing NOTHING else in your life but eliminating one 12oz can of soda, which is (140 calories and 39g of sugar) every day for seven days. Over one week you drank -987 less calories and -273 less added sugar.

That feels good right? And you can probably continue to keep doing that.

Ok, now what’s the next small goal? What’s “B?”

It sounds simple, but this can be very hard to stick to on our own. That is why it is so helpful to work with a professional to understand your personal goals, lifestyle and preferences and meet you where YOU are at.

I could give you a pretty meal all packaged and ready to go. But what are you learning to do for yourself? You will likely temporarily lose weight doing this because you are creating a calorie deficit. But then once you stop getting pretty packaged meals, you will not know where to start again on your own.

When you’re out to eat how do you know what foods have carbs, how much a serving size is and how often you should be eating them?

I will give you the tools to understand how to eat for your body and how to achieve your big picture health goals with small sustainable changes. There is not a perfect program for everyone. And that’s the difference between a one size fits all diet and individualized nutrition coaching with a trained professional that spends TIME learning about YOU and investing in YOUR health goals.

Let’s start with “A.”
