Can Your Results Withstand the Rain Storms?

“Everyone who hears these words of mine, and does them, is like a wise man, who built his house on a rock.
The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat the house down. But it didn’t fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Everyone who hears these words of mine, and doesn’t do them will be like a foolish man, who built his house on the sand.
The rain came down, the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat on that house, and it fell and great was its fall.”

Matthew 7:21-23

Regardless of your religious beliefs, this analogy is a powerful one in reference to our nutrition journey!

This was a great reference I heard on a podcast, The Health Wellth and Wisdom podcast, with Nicole Hagen. And it is such a good one!

When you don’t do the necessary work of changing your mindset, working through limiting beliefs and gaining confidence with your relationship with food in pursuit of weight loss. It’s like building your dream home – without a solid foundation.

Let’s say you are out looking to buy a home. You go to see a home that looks really nice and hits the boxes of what you are looking for. But when you go to see the house, the foundation is all cracked, and it has caused water damage and mold issues.

Would you say, “ahhh, no big deal, we will just live with a cracked foundation because the design is what we want.”

NO, that would be foolish.
You would never want your home to be unsafe and unstable.
You would never cut corners to fix the foundation because you didn’t want to wait for the contractors to come, and work on their time line.

Because after a few rainstorms that house is going down.

In your weight loss journey, if you are not building a strong foundation first, life stress will happen; illness, work deadlines, Holidays, trauma, a pandemic! And the weight is likely to come back because you haven’t established healthier coping forms, managed your mental health and created boundaries within your life around your needs.

Your mindset, relationship with food and habits are foundational for long lasting aesthetic changes.
Eating is not optional, your body needs food for survival. Learning to navigate this piece for yourself is paramount in sustainable change.

Many people rush this part, because the outcome is way more exciting.
We ALL want to buy the house, move in the NEXT day, decorate and have the house warming party.
But you have to EARN this.
You have to pay the down payment
Submit paperwork to the bank
Be qualified for a mortgage
Get the inspection

BEFORE you can even close and start actually doing the work and updates!

Diets skip this part.
Diets don’t teach you how to eat in a way that FEELS best for you and teaches you how to create lasting change.

Diets are so alluring, because they sell the decorations and house warming party. Which is the outcome, the weight loss.

If you think back on anything truly valuable you have done, FAST doesn’t LAST.
Your degree
Your marriage
Your business
Your children / parenting

To achieve these aspects of your life fully, you had to stay committed, be patient, consistent, open minded, and willing to fail.

Having a confident relationship with food, a healthy body that feels at peace and a flexible mentality is not optional, it’s Required to create lasting change and weight loss.

Results are not always visible.
Progress is not always visible to other people.

You have to address the inner critic, the self talk, the unhealthy coping mechanisms. Before, you can feel, look and perform the way you want.

If you don’t build a strong foundation before adding on, building up, and decorating – everything will come crashing down.

You absolutely CAN have everything you want.
You can feel confident in your skin and with your nutrition.
You can have great digestion, focus and clarity.
You can have energy and set PRs in the gym.
You can lose weight and maintain your results.

But you have to put in the the effort, the time and the awareness to address the inner work first.

You have to build your house on a rock solid foundation, before you are able to have the visible results.

This is my jam and absolute passion to help my nutrition clients to achieve. The process and inner transformation that happens when they are willing to create uncomfortable awareness and value themselves, ripples into so many aspects of their lives.
