This May Surprise You

Are you ready?

You aren’t supposed to know how to do everything, or be good at something new the first time you try it.

I know … I was surprised to realize this too.

Maybe you love cooking and find it to be a creative outlet or mindless escape, while someone else feels overwhelmed and daunted with cooking.

Maybe you are great at painting and find a sense of therapeutic grace, while someone else feels totally lost and unsure where to start or what supplies they even need?

Maybe you have a really healthy relationship with money and you enjoy managing your finances, while someone else may find money uncomfortable and can’t even look at their bank account.

Maybe you love working out and easily fit this into your day, while someone else doesn’t know what a deadlift or warrior 2 pose is, let alone dedicating time for movement.

It’s not that the other person isn’t good at the task or behavior, it’s because of their relationship with it, prior experiences, level of effort with trying, learning, and practice.

TBH I have never really taken the time or wanted to learn to paint interiors. I realize this isn’t the hardest task, but there is still a level of knowledge and skill you need to have. You have to understand the best paint to use, what tools you will need and how to perform the job with a streak free outcome and not getting paint everywhere else it is Not supposed to be…

The first time I tried painting a room, it was a ceiling. Which is Much harder and more frustrating than painting a wall. This left me feeling very frustrated and like I never wanted to do this again.

After educating myself and watching some videos on how to paint interior walls, I felt better about trying again. Once I did, it wasn’t as bad as the story I had played in my head. I began to get into a grove, feel what was working and what wasn’t. After I did one of the rooms, I could identity what I could do differently in the future to set myself up better next time and avoid some of the mistakes I made (getting paint in the outlet sockets, on the ceiling, and how to cut in the corners!)

If your exposure to movement has only been around calories burned, cardio and solely working out if you were trying to lose weight, of course you aren’t going to stick with it and have a poor relationship with exercise.
