17 Dec I’m Just Not That Person
I actually painted this art, in high school
I say actually, because I never identified myself as a creative, or artsy person. It felt really hard to me, or even a waste of time. Like what am I accomplishing from this?
How immature is this statement as I write this.
What I have learned through lots of self identity work and hashing it out with my shadow.
Is that, I am creative, I am an artist, I do have self expression. When I did this painting in high school, I was intentional. I was thoughtful, I was sitting still and being with myself. I was able to see the details, and had the capacity to pour.
The parts of my life I felt like writing, and art were impossible, were the times when I was completely burning myself out and over controlling food and exercise. Of Course I had no capacity to be creative, or to express myself through art.
The interesting part about this artwork I did, was that I was drawing the outline of this random mixture of pieces the teacher put together as a still life. I focused the detail on the void, instead of just the object. I painted in the black void with attention and appreciation.
Most of our journey to the next thing, is The Void. The seemingly empty space, with nothing worthwhile or interesting about it. This mindless, nothing, lack. If we are spending most of our time in the void, how can we find appreciation and truth in this part of our journey to the destination?
I often hear women say
I am not creative
I am not a runner
I am not the person that meal preps
I can’t meditate
I”ll just never be the person that wakes up for myself in the morning first
If you don’t WANT to do these things, that’s one thing! You are the boss of your life.
But if you know that there are certain areas of your life that would 10x your happiness, health and wellness, but you are telling yourself you are not that person.
That is exactly the problem.
You create your own reality
You create your own identify
What does it even mean to “be a runner?”
That you run 5 miles a day?
or that you put on your sneakers and jog for 1 mile twice this week?
YOU decide what it means! If you wake up, put on your sneakers and call yourself a runner, You ARE a runner! Congratulations!
What does it mean to “be creative?”
Does it mean you are a designer, or you can paint the most beautiful artwork effortlessly?
Maybe!
But also, is it putting together a flower arrangement you bought at the store in a vase on your counter?
Absolutely!
Once you give yourself the space and time, to truly identify what matters to you, how you want to feel and what that person DOES each day.
You have unlocked the potential that is already inside of you.
