Continuing to Move Towards Health Goals While Company Is In Town

This is the day that you HAVE

Rejoice and be grateful

Show Up for for the best version of YOU

As January comes to end and we enter a new month, it’s helpful to pause and reflect. Rather than just letting life pass by without recognition of what you have enjoyed or accomplished, and what you have to look forward to. Bring your valuable attention on the things you Can Do, rather than what you Can’t do.

I can’t emphasize enough the value of starting your day in a positive way. Rather than immediately reaching for your phone in the morning, can you take some time to do something that brings you joy, peace and clarity?

Read, watch or listen to a motivating message. I do this when I am walking on the treadmill in the morning.

When you wake up and it’s dark outside still, set up your environment to feel inviting. Turn on the lights and fireplace, light candles, or put on the diffuser with essential oils, play relaxing music.

This weekend, we had my sister, her husband and their daughter visit, which is always special and fun! Despite having company stay with us, I still try to include some of my daily habits into the mix.

This is my (almost 2 yo) niece, Reese. Drinking a “baby chino” aka frothed milk in a mug. Hope this brings some joy to your day too!!

Even with company, I made an effort to go to bed and wake up at similar times so I could carve out time for myself before everyone was up in the morning for breakfast and coffee. This really helps me fill my cup, and I am ready to be available and present with everyone after.

Another thing that was helpful in keeping with goal supportive habits, was continuing to prep some foods for upcoming meals as we were in the kitchen making meals. I roasted sweet potatoes for future meals, and made another protein source in addition to the one we were making for that meal. We made a big salad every night and just changed up the toppings on it, and had leftovers of that for the next day.

For dinners we made a big salad as a base, with foods we had in the fridge and pantry for toppings. We made sure to have a variety of lettuce available to mix together different textures. This option had iceburg, romaine, spinach and toppings included pepperoncini, sun dried tomato, grape tomato, shredded carrots, bell pepper, red onion. Veggies add volume to meals with color and texture with less calories, in addition to nutrients and can help displace the heavier foods in the meal.

I continued to have three balanced meals through out the day
Drank adequate water
While enjoying other fun foods and drinks through out the weekend.

We had most meals at home, and really enjoy having intentional family meals around the table, with good food, company ambience and comfort.

I know that if I do the majority of the things that support me with sleep, activity, nutrition and my own personal space. I can more easily navigate the caious, schedule changes and fun aspects. Without feeling totally derailed and depleted.

Do I always makes the best choices, NO. I am human too. But thought it would be helpful to share habits that help me in these moments.

I’d love to know what habits help you stay on track towards your goals during busy weekends with travel, family, company, and fun? Share in the Better group chat!

Remember that what you are working towards doesn’t happen in a day, it happens daily. There are always habits you can maintain no matter what gets thrown at you, if you have the resources, back up tools, and are creating rituals that Feel Good in your day!

4 Tips to Remember as We Move into February

1. Embrace the Process

If you’re solely focused on the outcome, you will constantly feel frustrated about the present and the journey. Which will spiral into defeat and frustration. Or when you do get to where you want to be by gritting your teeth, the result won’t be meaningful in the end.
Find enjoyment in the small aspects of the day to day!

2. Understand Who You Need to Become to Reach Your Goal

The same habits that got you where you were, aren’t going to work to help you get to where you want to be.

What type of person achieves that goal?
What type of person Sustains that goal?
What does this person do on a day to day basis to be where you want to be?

You do not need to change your values as a human, but you do need to step outside the frame and limits you have boxed yourself in with, to change and grow to achieve that outcome and next level.

3. Your Environment Has a Tremendous Role in Your Success

The food choices surrounding you
The people you engage with
The things you read and watch
What you listen to you

All of these elements have a significant role in how you feel about yourself and the choices you make each day. While it’s not impossible to navigate these aspects, it does make it harder. You are putting up more barriers for yourself with something that is already challenging and different.

If you absorbing negative messaging on a regular basis, you are likely going to have a negative mentality about things.

If you read and listen to motivating and positive messaging, you are better able to see the positive, and you are able to move forward with making goal supportive choices each day.

4. Come back to Your Why

When the Why behind your goal is powerful enough, the HOW will appear. The meaning behind why you are working towards your goals has to elicit emotion. Motivation and Willpower are short lived tactics. You need to have meaning and purpose behind everything you do.
